Volunteers in Action

Apple Valley Christian School’s G.E.T.T. Club (God’s Earth for Today and Tomorrow) has a simple mission:  Promote positive stewardship of God’s resources through community service, Christian values, and setting a good example.  The high school members, representing six countries - United States, Brazil, China, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam - put their words into action on Saturday, February 23, 2013 to help VVAPL during Apple Valley PetSmart’s National Adoption Weekend.

According to VVAPL Executive Director Kathy Williamson, car traffic into the complex increased when the club members were on the corners holding up their signs, and stressed that the efforts of the G.E.T.T. Club helped not only VVAPL but also the other participants - Pets Forever Found and the Town of Apple Valley Animal Shelter.  During the adoption weekend, Williamson estimated at least 25 animals found their forever homes, including 2 cats and 9 dogs from VVAPL.  Ambassador Dog Millie gives the G.E.T.T. Club two paws up for helping to make the weekend a huge success.  Visit our Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/vvapl.humanesociety to view our gallery of photos.

Rachelle Allen, 2012 Disney VoluntEAR of the Year, earned two grants through the Disney VoluntEAR Program. In May she donated a $2,500 Disney VoluntEAR of the Year Grant and in August, for the second year in a row, she donated a $1,000 VoluntEAR Grant.

Allen is an employee of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts in Anaheim.  She qualified for the Disney VoluntEAR Program Grants by volunteering over 25 hours a year.  This year she had the additional honor of being chosen the 2012 Disney VoluntEAR of the Year and was awarded the additional grant money.

VVAPL helped Allen with an abandoned dog she was fostering, and this is her way to help other animals.  Rachelle Allen is paws and tails above the rest!!
